Hi. Welcome to Fever Fishing Products. My name is Jansie Blom and I’d like to tell you a little about the company and how it came to be.
To manufacture and supply top quality lead-free artificial fishing lures made from the best materials available.
Why no lead
Lead is still being used by most fishermen as if it’s not a deadly, destructive substance.
NOT using lead in our lures, forms part of our commitment to do as little damage to the environment as possible.
It might be a small step, but it’s a step in the right direction.
I was introduced to the sport of barbel fishing at the end of the 90s.
Along the way I discovered that fish could be outsmarted with artificial lures, and thus started my bass fishing years.
I spent many years collecting lures and fishing various rivers and dams for largemouth- and smallmouth bass.
First lure making venture
In 2006 I started a lure manufacturing venture with a friend, making spinnerbaits for the South African bass fishing market. The venture didn’t last as the two of us went our separate ways (but remained friends).
A few years later I started looking at saltwater angling, since I live in a coastal town.
As always, I was drawn to the artificial lure side of the sport. I came across the Alcock brothers’ DVDs on saltwater lure fishing and was introduced to the bucktail jig head, a lure they largely popularised in the Eastern Cape.
The first bucktail jig head lures
In 2011 I invested in a number of tools and materials to start manufacturing bucktail jig heads of my own.
Along with a friend, Giepie Otto, I started making bucktail jig heads of various designs, some of which were downright ludicrous.
Dread the lead
When Giepie and I first started making lures, we were using lead. It bothered me immensely though.
I told Giepie that, in order for us to stand out among the crowd of lure manufacturers, should we take a commercial route, we’d have to use a unique angle.
That unique angle would be to manufacture lead-free lures.
Giepie and I started discussing the option of going into partnership to start manufacturing the lures commercially.
We put together a partnership contract, but before we could kick off, Giepie left Jeffreys Bay for a job on a farm in George.
A solid investment
In 2015 my (then) girlfriend (now wife) decided to invest money in my lure making venture, which by this time had been christened Fever Fishing.
This meant that she owned a significant portion of the business, which was fine by me.
A few kinks along the way
Since 2015 many kinks were straightened out in the business. Lure coatings were finalised, a new website was built and rebuilt and many fish caught for the purpose of “research and development”.
The current team
We’re currently two partners in the business. Although we have different roles, both of us take part in “research and development”.
I’m in charge of manufacturing, new product development and marketing.
Tracey’s in charge of the financial side of things, as well as marketing.
Both Jansie and Tracey are committed Christians. They believe that sinful man must be made righteous by a holy God in order to enjoy eternal life. The creator of the universe, Jesus, is an integral part of their lives. Read Jansie’s testimony.
We’re hoping to expand the range of lures to include as many types of jig heads as possible.
We’d also like to supply fishing equipment aimed at the light tackle lure fisherman.
I used WordPress to build the website with.
